Surah An Naba
Translation by:
Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
-
‘Amma yatasā'alūn(a).
What are they asking one another about?
-
‘Anin naba'il-‘aẓīm(i).
About the momentous news,
-
Allażī hum fīhi mukhtalifūn(a).
over which they disagree.
-
Kallā saya‘lamūn(a).
But no! They will come to know.
-
Ṡumma kallā saya‘lamūn(a).
Again, no! They will come to know.
-
Alam naj‘alil-arḍa mihādā(n).
Have We not smoothed out the earth ˹like a bed˺,
-
Wal-jibāla autādā(n).
and ˹made˺ the mountains as ˹its˺ pegs,
-
Wa khalaqnākum azwājā(n).
and created you in pairs,
-
Wa ja‘alnā naumakum subātā(n).
and made your sleep for rest,
-
Wa ja‘alnal-laila libāsā(n).
and made the night as a cover,
-
Wa ja‘alnan-nahāra ma‘āsyā(n).
and made the day for livelihood,
-
Wa banainā fauqakum sab‘an syidādā(n).
and built above you seven mighty ˹heavens˺,
-
Wa ja‘alnā sirājaw wahhājā(n).
and placed ˹in them˺ a shining lamp,
-
Wa anzalnā minal-mu‘ṣirāti mā'an ṡajjājā(n).
and sent down from rainclouds pouring water,
-
Linukhrija bihī ḥabbaw wa nabātā(n).
producing by it grain and ˹various˺ plants,
-
Wa jannātin alfāfā(n).
and dense orchards?
-
Inna yaumal-faṣli kāna mīqātā(n).
Indeed, the Day of ˹Final˺ Decision is an appointed time—
-
Yauma yunfakhu fiṣ-ṣūri fa ta'tūna afwājā(n).
˹it is˺ the Day the Trumpet will be blown, and you will ˹all˺ come forth in crowds.
-
Wa futiḥatis-samā'u fa kānat abwābā(n).
The sky will be ˹split˺ open, becoming ˹many˺ gates,
-
Wa suyyiratil-jibālu fa kānat sarābā(n).
and the mountains will be blown away, becoming ˹like˺ a mirage.
-
Inna jahannama kānat mirṣādā(n).
Indeed, Hell is lying in ambush
-
Liṭ-ṭāgīna ma'ābā(n).
as a home for the transgressors,
-
Lābiṡīna fīhā aḥqābā(n).
where they will remain for ˹endless˺ ages.
-
Lā yażūqūna fīhā bardaw wa lā syarābā(n).
There they will not taste any coolness or drink,
-
Illā ḥamīmaw wa gassāqā(n).
except boiling water and ˹oozing˺ pus—
-
Jazā'aw wifāqā(n).
a fitting reward.
-
Innahum kānū lā yarjūna ḥisābā(n).
For they never expected any reckoning,
-
Wa każżabū bi'āyātinā kiżżābā(n).
and totally rejected Our signs.
-
Wa kulla syai'in aḥṣaināhu kitābā(n).
And We have everything recorded precisely.
-
Fa żūqū falan nazīdakum illā ‘ażābā(n)
˹So the deniers will be told,˺ “Taste ˹the punishment˺, for all you will get from Us is more torment.”
-
Inna lil-muttaqīna mafāzā(n).
Indeed, the righteous will have salvation—
-
Ḥadā'iqa wa a‘nābā(n).
Gardens, vineyards,
-
Wa kawā‘iba atrābā(n).
and full-bosomed maidens of equal age,
-
Wa ka'san dihāqā(n).
and full cups ˹of pure wine˺,
-
Lā yasma‘ūna fīhā lagwaw wa lā kiżżābā(n).
never to hear any idle talk or lying therein—
-
Jazā'am mir rabbika ‘aṭā'an ḥisābā(n).
a ˹fitting˺ reward as a generous gift from your Lord,
-
Rabbis-samāwāti wal-arḍi wa mā bainahumar-raḥmāni lā yamlikūna minhu khiṭābā(n).
the Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything in between, the Most Compassionate. No one will dare speak to Him
-
Yauma yaqūmur-rūḥu wal-malā'ikatu ṣaffā(n), lā yatakallamūna illā man ażina lahur-raḥmānu wa qāla ṣawābā(n).
on the Day the ˹holy˺ spirit and the angels will stand in ranks. None will talk, except those granted permission by the Most Compassionate and whose words are true.
-
Żālikal-yaumul-ḥaqq(u), faman syā'attakhaża ilā rabbihī ma'ābā(n).
That Day is the ˹ultimate˺ truth. So let whoever wills take the path leading back to their Lord.
-
Innā anżarnākum ‘ażāban qarībā(n), yauma yanẓurul-mar'u mā qaddamat yadāhu wa yaqūlul-kāfiru yā laitanī kuntu turābā(n).
Indeed, We have warned you of an imminent punishment—the Day every person will see ˹the consequences of˺ what their hands have done, and the disbelievers will cry, “I wish I were dust.”
